On this blog, we try our best to bring about things pertinent to Africa. Whether it is African culture, children, clandestine practices, or even the cloth, we try to hone in on what is interesting. Today we will be talking about the cloth.
Fashion has come a long way in promoting authentic African cloth. It has been exhibited in many forms, such as various fashion shows, magazines, and social media. One particular format in social media African fashion has excelled in is in blogs. And as an African-focused blog, we are inspired by these bloggers. On October 12th, ASA had its community service event PROJECT AMBITION! High school aged children from Rise Together Ministries and the Senegalese community came to Wash U to get an early taste of college life. Here are some photos.
Six months later, the majority of the girls have yet to be found. Earlier in the year, ASA held a Roundtable Discussion about this very event and how the use of the # can bring notoriety to the event, but also reduce the magnitude of the event. Is she serving as a reductionist to the kidnapping? Is she bringing it back to light? It’s definitely something to think about.

This year the theme for Africa Week is MADE IN AFRICA. To promote the week of events we held a photo campaign allowing people to show their African pride! Check out the pictures below!
Africa week is coming soon! Starting February 24th through the 28th we will be hosting a wide range of events to teach the WashU community about Africa. The events include:
Monday- Yum! Where’s it From? 6-8pm
Tuesday- Roundtable with Yomi Abiola 4-5:30pm
Wednesday- Africa Jeopardy 8:30-10pm
Thursday- ASA Pageant 7-9pm
Friday- Annual Fashion Show 7-9pm
